I. Introduction of Contest
Planning Concept
Bozhou is home to numerous sages, and is also well-known as an ancient capital of a prolonged history. As one of the ancient cradles of Chinese civilization, Bozhou has a 3700-year history of splendid cultivation, which seems as if one man chanting an eternal soul song arrived here along the river of time; Today Bozhou upholds the future-oriented cultural philosophy to fully explore its own soft strength, and ushers in a rebirth by utilizing its long historical and cultural treasures and abundant heritage, and steps into the contemporary times with the new urban culture to infuse youth and passion into this ancient city, thus making it grow into a cultural Bozhou with the contemporary charm.
The "Cao Cao Cup • Heavenly Creations Award" Bozhou International Sculpture Contest 2016, puts "Bozhou Story" as the theme, and adopts the contemporary philosophy and the artistic means to shape Bozhou’s urban context, demonstrate the charming Bozhou with abundant resources and outstanding talents, and highlights Bozhou’s traditional cultural gene and future city attitude, for the sake of using the future development philosophy to guide the contemporary urbanization process. Bozhou International Sculpture Contest is jointly sponsored by Association of Chinese Sculptor and Bozhou Municipal People's Government and is undertaken by Bozhou Culture Tourism Company. The Contest will use diversified art forms of sculptures in an all-round and multi-angle way to showcase Bozhou’s history and humanism, regional culture, folk scenery and achievements, which is designed to motivate the vitality of the city through art, and create a new cultural brand with the significance of the times and social value for the city, thus achieving richer urban culture accumulation for Bozhou in the future.
Academic Position
Urban culture is a key factor in creating the urban brand and establishing the urban image. Urban culture is not only a record of the city's development and achievements, but is also a link to make the urban development become more balanced and harmonious. As an important form of contemporary art, the contemporary sculpture has become the preferred discourse symbol, due to its own unique language charm and expressive forms, which helps make full interpretation of the cultural tastes of the modern city, and create a rich contemporary culture atmosphere.
The "Cao Cao Cup • Heavenly Creations Award" Bozhou International Sculpture Contest 2016 is deeply rooted in Bozhou’s time-honored geographical culture, and is aimed to build the contemporary sculpture high-end platform marked with the spirit of the times and the frontier concepts as well as higher artistic standards and cultural tastes through the international-level academic orientation of the experimental figurative sculpture contest, thus providing a new artistic perspective and development direction for Chinese contemporary sculpture and the urban cultural intervention; Meanwhile, through the implementation of the government, supervision of specialized organizations and active participation of art institutions, the strong linkage and resources integration may be achieved among the government, specialized organizations and art institutions to demonstrate the overall urban charm of Bozhou and make a new exploration of urban brand building.
The works of both finalists and award-winners in the Contest will be included into the Works of Chinese Contemporary Sculptors (published by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House) to be edited by the Association of Chinese Sculptor.

III. Contest Arrangements
○ 9:30—10:30AM Jan.15,2016 The launching ceremony and press conference of the First “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest will be held.
○ Jan.15,2016—April 22,2016 Contest works will be solicited and collected. The deadline of the works contribution will be at 17:00 PM on April 22, 2016 (such time shall be subject to the time of E-mail to be sent out or of the letter to be postmarked).
○ April 23,2016—May 11, 2016 After the review of the expert team, the design program will be released on the website of sculptor around the world. The secret ballot of “public judges” will be adopted to assess all participating works. (This ballot will be taken as the reference of the shortlisted works and the deadline of the network contribution of works will be at 17:00 PM on May 11, 2016 in the China Standard Time.)
○ May 13, 2016.1—May 16,2016 The expert review meeting will be held to have a preliminary assessment of the design works in the Contest; 80 pieces of the works from the design works will be selected as the shortlisted works having no ranking temporarily.
○ May 16, 2016—May 19,2016 The result of the preliminary assessment will be released and the finalists will be informed to make their small-sized works models.
○ May 19, 2016—Aug.19,2016 The finalists in the preliminary assessment will make their small-sized works models, and will send such models by email or at the spot to the specified address of the Organizing Committee before 18:00 on August 24, 2016. ( The time of arrival for the postmark will prevail) .
○ Aug.19,2016—Aug.24,2016; During this period, the three-dimensional small-sized models will be delivered for review.
○ On August 25,2016 The expert re-appraisal meeting will be held to release the list of prize winners and display the 28 pieces of prize-winning ground works. After the release, the prize winners will be notified on the works amplification matters.
○ Aug.26,2016—Sept.6,2016:The works of the finalists in the 2016 “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest, will be on display.
○ Sept.8,2016—Dec.8,2016: The works of the winners in the Sculpture Contest will be completed on the ground.
○ Dec.9,2016—Jan.8,2017: Field installation will be made.
○ Jan.9,2017—Jan.10,2017: The final assessment meeting of experts will be convened to select the winners of contest gold, silver and bronze medals and publicize the list of the winners.
○ Jan.9,2017—Jan.12,2017: The 28 sculptors will visit Bozhou Culture Sculpture Park to inspect the situation of their works installation and to participate in related academic activities.
○ 9:00 AM-10:00 AM Jan.11,2017 The grand award-presenting ceremony of the First “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest of 2016 will be opened.
○ On the afternoon of Jan.11,2017, the Fifth China Sculptor Forum –Go to Bozhou will be held.
○ On the morning of Jan.12,2017, the 28 artists will visit the famous attractions and related cultural institutions in Bozhou.
○ On Jan.13,2017, the activities of Contest will come to an end, and the artists will return home.
IV. Awards of Contest
1. Awards for individual sculptors
The works of the prize-winning sculptors will be collected and displayed by the Sculpture Museum of Bozhou Sculpture Park. The shortlisted artists will send their small-sized sculpture works to the Organizing Committee for assessment, and those artists not selected by the organizing committee will be given 3,000 yuan subsidy, and in principle their small-sized manuscripts will be returned.
2. Certificates of Honor:
The above prize winners will be freely offered the specially-made certificates of honor of the Contest.
3. Excellent Organizing Award
Six excellent organizing awards will be set up to praise the institutions or the organizations which activity promote the sculpture activity and recommend the participants. Each prize-winning institution or organization will be given a large painting album of this Contest.
4. Contest works collection
All participants will be given a book of the First “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest of 2016 and will receive a collection certificate issued by the Organizing Committee.
V. Rules of Contest
(1) Requirements for the Works Participated
1. Qualification of participants
The works solicitation for this Contest will be open to all artists around the world. Any individual or institution having the ability of designing and manufacturing any kind of sculpture works will become a qualified participant in the Contest, provided that they fill in the application form in accordance with the participation requirements of the Contest.
2. Themes of works participated:
For more about the themes of the works, please refer to the “References”in the Appendix.
3. Themes of works participated:
Material requirement of the following works: Permanent and hard materials.
The following themes can be used as the reference.
(1) The sculpture works with the local culture themes of Bozhou
(2) The sculpture works that can reflect the themes of the traditional Chinese medicine culture, Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi cultures, culture of three kingdoms.
(3) The sculpture works that can reflect the historical scenes, folk tales and legends, local cultures, local cultural heritages, local landscapes and figures of Bozhou.
(4) The sculpture works that can reflect the urban civilization construction results of Bozhou and the humanistic spirit of Bozhou. (5) Ecological sculpture works that initiates the green and environmental protection concept.
Remarks: Each participant can contribute one or more works schemes in various works styles.
4. Works Specifications: Sculpture Size: within 2.8-4 meters, and figure sculpture size: between 2.2 m -2.6 m.
5. Intellectual property rights of participating works and their exhibition
(1) Exhibition requirements
All foreign and domestic artists who recognize the themes and principles of this Contest and have the sculpture creation ability can participate in the contest, regardless of their nationality, nations, age and sex.
All works should be the original works and their authors must have all intellectual property rights contained in their works, and shall not infringe intellectual property rights of any third party. Otherwise such participants should individually assume legal responsibility.
(2) Exhibition type
Ground works will be permanently displayed outdoors.
Exhibition location: Bozhou Sculpture Park or public space.
(3) Production by amplifying the exhibition works
The Organizing Committee is responsible for the uniform implementation and production of the amplifying manufacturing of the exhibition works in accordance with the relevant details. In principle, the 28 prize-winning sculpture works that are finally selected for amplifying manufacturing are entirely installed and manufactured by the institutions with grade II or above sculpture enterprise qualification recommended by the Association of Chinese Sculptor. The expert team of the Association of Chinese Sculptor and the prize-winning sculptors will be responsible for the art supervising. The processing time of the amplifying manufacturing of the sculptures is from June 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016. During this period, all authors of all works for amplifying and manufacturing should supervise the works manufacturing at least for once at the specified processing factory or the manufacturing field. The Organizing Committee should be responsible for the travel accommodation. The authors who not supervise the manufacturing at the factory will be regarded as abandoning the assessment exhibition award winning qualifications. At the same time, the exhibition Art Committee organizes the Supervisor Department of the exhibition to conduct overall coordination and supervising of the manufacturing and supervising of the works. The Organizing Committee will send the invitation letter and participation contract to each shortlisted author to explicit the responsibilities, obligations and rights of both parties. The shortlisted authors should send back the participation contracts to the Organizing Committee before June 1, 2016 after signing their names on it.
VI. The Fifth Chinese Sculptor Forum —— Go to Bozhou
The Chinese Sculptor Forum is a large-scale sculpture forum continuously held by the Association of Chinese Sculptor. At the fifth Chinese Sculptor Forum, we will invite the internationally and domestically renowned experts, artists, collectors, responsible person of the artistic institution and relevant media to participate in the Fourth Session Chinese Sculptor Forum. By holding high-quality seminar, lectures, communication meetings, we aims to promote the academic quality of the sculpture exhibition, exploit and strengthen the sculpture artistic theory depth, expand the comprehensive influence of the sculpture art, and shape the high-end communication platform of cooperation, research and promotion.
VII .Documents Submitted by the Participants
1. Documents submitted in the initial competition
The Contest will be formally launched on 9:30AM of January 15, 2016 in Chinese Standard Time. The deadline of the works contribution will be at 17:00 PM on April 22, 2016 (the time of the email or the postmark on the letter should apply). The participants should provide complete participation documents in accordance with the following requirements.
(1) Application form of the First “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest of 2016. (For details, please refer to the Appendix 1).
(2) Sending by mail of the sculpture design drawings to the Contest
The following drawings should be sent by post: including the general plan, the individual or group sculpture elevation, the design sketches in many directions (no less than the design sketches in two directions), other drawings that can be conducive to the design purpose description. The participating author must fill in the registration form and provide the participating design works, two or three realistic electronic works pictures (one picture for the same initial works in various angle), two color bareheaded photos of two inches (1 for reservation and one for exhibition certificate manufacturing), scanning copy of the ID card (front and back side), which should be sent to the specified email of the Organizing Committee: diaosujia@vip.163.com. The pictures of many works should correspond to the works descriptions and should be explicit and clear. The assembled works should have clear installation drawing (the resolution of all electronic pictures sent to the email should be above 300DPI). CD-ROM or DVD should be taken as the storage medium for the electronic version and one piece of data above 300dpi should be stored. The information filled in the registration form should be clear without missing item. In principle, the foreign participants (excluding the foreign citizens of Chinese origin) should fill in the form in English. The documents submitted overdue should not be accepted.
For the purpose of the impartial and equitable assessment, the personal name, or company name, and marks of any designer cannot be noted on the front side of their works. The participants should ensure that the works are true and effective.
If the works provided by the participants does not conform to the requirements and regulations of the contest collection, the sponsors will cancel the participating qualification of the related participants. All participating paper documents should be uniformly kept and filed by the Organizing Committee of the exhibition and will not be returned. So please keep the draft for yourself.

All participants must send the electronic version of the works to the designated mailbox by the Association while mailing out the paper documents.
（3）Copies of the individuals or company’s valid certificates
The participants should provide one copy for their ID cards (front side and back side) or other valid certificates. The participants as a team or an institution should provide one copy of the institution business license and affix the official seal on the copy.
（4）Download the participating qualification commitment letter and sign on it (affix the seal) and send it by post (for details, please refer to the Appendix 1).
3. Documents submitted by the finalists
The finalists should send the documents or submit them at the site to the address specified b the Organizing Committee before 18:00 of September 8, 2016. The participants should submit the following documents in accordance with the requirements.
（1）Send the small-sized sculpture works by mail
The finalists should manufacture the small samples of the sculptures by themselves and submit the samples to the Organizing Committee. The samples should reflect the original style of the works in the perspective of materials and colors and should be easy to carry and be stored. In principle, the size of the works should be controlled within 30-60 cm. Small-sized sculpture works are required to be made of such materials as GRP, cast copper and stone. If such works made of fragile materials fails to arrive at the site for the competition, the participants shall personally undertake corresponding responsibility.
（2）Packing Requirements for small-sized works
The packing containers of the small samples of the sculptures should be filled with the foam rubber or soft cotton as the anti-collision layer. The four sides of the packing containers should be made of wooden slabs and fixed with screws. Furthermore, they should be easy to be assembled and dismantled and can be returned to the participants.

IX. Statement of Contest
（1）Application of award-winning works
1. The prize-winning works will be exhibited on the Outstanding Works Exhibition of the First “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest of 2016.
2. The prize-winning works will be published in the Works of First “Cao Cao Cup ● Heavenly Creations Award” Bozhou International Sculpture Contest of 2016.
3. The prize-winning works will be permanently displayed in the network museum of the sculpture museum of the Association of Chinese Sculptor and be listed in the sculptor database of the Association. The works of the finalists and winners in the Contest will be directly included into the Works Album of Chinese Contemporary Sculptors.
4. The prize-winning works will be permanently exhibited at Bozhou Sculpture Park or urban public spaces.
5. The original works will be used at the important locations of Bozhou Sculpture Park or the urban public spaces.
6.The prize-winning works in this Contest will be endowed with the one-time membership of the Association of Chinese Sculptor.
（2）Relevant Statements
1. The design drawings and documents of all participating works received by the Organizing Committee will not be returned to the participants. The ownerships of the shortlisted small-sized works amplified will remain with the sponsors but the works copyright will belong to their authors.
2. If the works are lost or damaged due to delay, loss or damage of delivery, false delivery, insufficient sending fee, being stolen or other reasons not being caused by the sponsor, the sponsor will not undertake any responsibility.
3. The works of the participants should not infringe the legal rights and privileges of other persons; otherwise, the participants should undertake the corresponding responsibilities. Furthermore, the sponsor will not undertake the reputation and economic loss resulting from the infringement act of the participants. In case of infringement act made by the prize winner, the sponsor has the right to cancel the prize-winning qualification and ask him/her to return all rewards and the prize-winning certificate. The sponsor of the exhibition has the right to publish and issue the exhibition works and apply the works for public welfares. All listed works and a part of excellent works are included in the album of this activity. The verbal content includes exhibition description, academic articles, exhibition tidbits, exhibited works, introduction to the author and the description of works.
4. All costs and expenses incurred by the participants in relation to the Contest should be borne by such participants.
5. The contributors once sending out their works to the Organizing Committee shall be deemed to have accepted the contest rules, and the Organizing Committee should reserve the right to make the final explanation thereof.
