牟柏岩还很小的时候，大家就叫他“老牟”。“老”者“到”也。在造型艺术这一领域，他很早就掌握了塑造的“造型规律”。

在意大利，米开朗基罗的东西令我惊叹不已，那么多的巨大石刻，都是他一点点凿出来的；那么美的壁画，是他把脖子都画歪了玩儿命干出来的。他的作品又多又好，并不是因为他学会了解剖，而是他掌握了一整套造型的方法。

罗丹做了那么多好东西，塑造的力量出众，是因为他掌握了做“指向你的尖突”的“模塑法”。

我喜欢老牟的东西，并不局限他技法的纯熟，我欣赏他对造型的认知，和他对空间的理解。“百炼钢，绕指柔”，我相信他随着态度的提高，会做出各式各样的好东西来。当他感觉到了的时候，下次可能给大家看的就是“干巴瘦”了。

Everybody called Mu Boyan “Lao Mu (Old Fellow Mu)” when he was very young. “Old” just means “Success”. He has grasped the “rule of modeling” very early in the field of plastic arts.

In Italy, Michelangelo makes me so amazing, such many huge stone sculptures were all carved by him; such many beautiful mural paintings were all created by him with whole life devoting. His artworks are great excellent in quantities, it is not for the anatomy knowledge he learnt very well, but for the whole set of methods to mold.

Rodin created such many wonderful art pieces, his power of molding is outstanding, it is because he mastered the “method of molding”.

I like the works by Lao Mu, not only for his highly skillfulness, I appreciate his cognition to modeling and his understanding about spaces.

“The refined steel, softly winds fingers.” I believe him to make all kinds of good works along with the enhancement of manner. When he feels it, he possibly will give everybody next time to look the “dry thinners”.
